Network EPS is a family-owned electrical and mechanical engineering business based in Birmingham in the UK which installs and maintains a variety of systems including air-conditioning, commercial heating and plumbing.
With up to 10 sub-contractors on the road at a time, managing the business was getting to be overwhelming so director Jeff Scriven stepped up to the simPRO Enterprise job management system.
“We took the decision to use job management software because previously everything I did was on an Excel spreadsheet and it was a mess,” Jeff said.
“I had Excel spreadsheets for absolutely everything, I was duplicating things and didn't really know whether I was making sufficient money.”
“It was just a mess and only I knew about the mess. Nobody else could come along and stand in for me and find anything out.”
Switching to simPRO was a major undertaking but Jeff says the company is now reaping the following benefits.
One of the biggest advantages that Jeff has noticed is the ability to work anywhere, anytime, and for other employees to take over when he isn’t there.
“Even though it was difficult for me initially it was well worth the investment because everything I've got now is in one place,” Jeff said.
“Anybody can pick it up and look into it. Because it’s web-based I can take an iPad out and I can do quotations and sort information out in the field and when I'm travelling.”
“It was a good move and I wouldn't be able to do that if I was still using Excel spreadsheets.”
Jeff said that using simPRO, his efficiency has massively improved.
According to Jeff, simPRO has made quoting a whole lot easier and more accurate because he can easily estimate his costs for any job.
“It’s the cost control that I find the most beneficial to me and the speed with which I can produce information,” Jeff said.
“I've had more control over our prices because, even though I'm not using the software at its fullest capability, it’s vastly better than I was doing before.
“My costings have become more accurate, and when I have to adjust something, it’s quite easy to do. I can turn a quote out as easy as that, which I couldn't do before.”
In the short time that Jeff has been using simPRO he has already seen the business improve and he has now established a solid platform to support his future growth.
“I feel that the business in the time that I’ve had simPRO has developed and I can only see it developing further by using the management software,” Jeff said.
